Legionella pneumophila is an aerobic bacteria which is the causative agent of legionellosis or Legionnaires' disease.  The infection with legionellosis is caused by respiration of aerosols contaminated with L. pneumophila.There is risk of infection with apparatus creating such aeresols like showers, whirlpools, hot water systems, cooling towers, etc.
Prevention of legionella is therefore of high importance in the treatment of cooling water a
nd should be monitored on regular basis.
The restrictions and guidelines for monitoring the prevention of L. pneumpphila  are depending 
of the country or region.
